Frivolous Friday: Halloween Camping at Calico Ghost Town

It’s Frivolous Friday!

Thought I would share some of the fun I squeezed in this week (in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work.)

Yep, this happened #1:

The hubs and I just got home from another big Wolf Pup RV adventure (14 days wandering around Arizona!)

(Have you ever seen the signs for the ghost town on your way to Vegas?  We had, so we decided to stop over for a night on our way to Arizona to check it out)

And it turns out we picked a good time to go because Calico Ghost Town REALLY DOES UP Halloween!

We enjoyed our walk through the historic town – especially the Halloween decorations.

Did you know Calico is an old West mining town that has been around since 1881?

It was abandoned in the mid-1890s after silver lost its value. The town that once gave miners a good living lost its hustle and became a “ghost town.”

Walter Knott (of Knotts Berry Farm fame!) purchased Calico in the 1950’s architecturally restoring the buildings to look as they did in the 1880’s.

Had to torture the poodle with a few photos because why not.

Enjoyed the shops too – especially the General Mercantile.

Seriously, how cute is THIS?

Uh Oh….  😉  Don’t you hate it when you get tossed in jail?

Dental work anyone?  EEK!

The campground was rustic but our site was in a good location:   right next to the Ghost Town AND had a shade tree so we were happy AND we were only there for one night….

Started day two with 5:00am stargazing!  So many stars!!!

Then after the sun rose, Flashy and I hit the trails for our morning walk.

We walked by the Calico Cemetery to add a bit of spooky adventure….

Before we packed up the RV to head to destination #2 we grabbed our flashlights and explored one of the mines — cool stuff!
