Frivolous Friday! Playing with my food, Hidden Poway Homestead & LUNCH!

It’s Frivolous Friday!

Thought I would share some of the fun I squeezed in this week (in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work.)

Yep, this happened #1:

Had a little bit of free time this week and a need to get my creative juices flowing so I created a little bit of art.

And of course summer needs a clean up crew….

Yep, this happened #2:

Did some exploration in the backcountry of Poway to try to find an old historic, abandoned “Hobbit” homestead I’d read about.

AND WE FOUND IT (and some other interesting things!)

We began our exploration by following the road that was once part of the original stagecoach road that connected San Diego to Escondido.

All that remains today (90 years later) of John Funk’s home is the stone foundation and a few walls.

The home had 2 bedrooms and a stone outhouse complete with the first hand-dug pool in town.

This was a very talked-about swimming pool and people would come from all over to swim in it.

Despite all the attention, Funk was actually a very private man and did not like a lot of company.

On several occasions it was said that he ran off trespassers with a shotgun.

I’ll post a link in comments in case you want to learn more about Mr. Funk,

or see more photos without the heavy brush and all that nasty graffiti.

In fact, their trusty tractor, affectionately known as Big Bertha still lays on the grounds to this day.

Yep, this happened #3:

After all that exploration we were STARVED!  So we headed to the nearest yummy restaurant,  Tio Leos Mexican Restaurant

and I had a super delish Chicken Rice Bowl.

I think in the scheme of Mexican food it could be considered healthy and not too calorie-filled so it was the perfect ending to a good hike!  YUM!
