Frivolous Friday! 4th of July FUN in Big Bear

It’s Frivolous Friday!

Thought I would share some of the fun I squeezed in this week (in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work.)

Yep, this happened #1:

Hope you all had as happy a July 4th holiday as I did!

We met up with hubby’s sister and our brother in-law for an amazing fun-filled weekend in Big Bear!

We rented a cute little Airbnb “Chalet” that was a short walk to Snow Summit and the Village!

Guess what? I happened to take a few photos 🙂

One of our MUST CAPTURE photos every time we get together is with our Toy Story mascots….

The first morning we ventured up the mountain via the Snow Summit ski lift!

***If you didn’t know riding a ski lift in the summer was a thing…it IS!

The weather was perfect!  (Big Bear is generally high 70’s during the day and low 40’s at night all summer long.)

We shared the ski lift with a lot of mountain bikers and their high flying bikes….they rode up to CAREEN down the hill!

I can’t tell you how peaceful it was to just glide up the mountain!

(And not scary at all in case that worries you.)

Once we reached the top of the mountain we enjoyed lunch and a beautiful hike.

**We also happened to spot a chair lift that was in storage for the summer….so we stopped for a private mini photo shoot….ha!

…you KNOW I can’t resist a good photo opportunity…. 😉

And guess what?

We saw lots of wildlife!

And then we jumped back on the chair lift for a beautiful journey down the mountain.

The views of the mountain and lake were even more spectacular on the way down and the ski runs were covered with wildflowers!

Yep.  This Happened #2

In addition to our ski lift adventure, we walked into Big Bear Village a couple of times during our stay for lunch, shopping and to listen to live music.

The village also has a free trolley system so getting around the lake and village without your car is EASY PEASY.

So let me just say, Big Bear Village is ADORABLE – the whole town is decorated all “Mountain Chalet-ish.”

But even better than that, it’s filled with beautiful and colorful flower beds – they really went all out to make everything just stunning!

And add to that the clip clomp of horses hooves and you’ve created the perfect mountain atmosphere!

And guess what?

WE ATE.

A LOT.

We preplanned our weekend menu and divided up the cooking in advance  – but had decided to eat lunch out everyday!

Of course we ate very daintily…. NOT  😉

(Fun fact – did you know you can make tri-tip into kabobs and they are delish?  Well you can!)

And then BOOM it was our last night of vacay….waaaaa..

….but there was one fun thing left on our calendar:  FIREWORKS!!

We strolled down to the lake around sunset to grab a spot for the fireworks show… which immediately followed Mother Nature’s Sunset Show…  😉

It wasn’t long until some amazing fireworks lit up the night sky!

Here are a a few cell phone pics (I was there to have fun not mess with my big camera…)

Which brings up an important point, remember to make sure your photography doesn’t interfere with you enjoying the moment –

I think there’s a fine line between capturing a memory and dragging down the present!

(This is why I always recommend to my bride and grooms that they ask guests to put away cell phones during the wedding ceremony and just BE present, share the emotion and soak it in!)

After a weekend filled with smiles, laughter, music, great conversation, yummy food, immersing ourselves in nature and just all around having a blast,

we headed down the mountain toward home….

Bottom line?  I absolutely recommend you go visit Big Bear in the summer!  You won’t regret it!

And Happy Birthday to the good ole USA!
