Frivolous Friday! A Beach Camp-out!! Fun in the Sun in Carpinteria
It’s Frivolous Friday!
Thought I would share some of the fun I squeezed in this week (in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work.)
Yep, this happened:
The hubs and I just got back from a super fun beach camping trip!
We rented an RV and enjoyed four beautiful days at Carpinteria State Beach — the weather was perfect, the views were incredible and the company was sweet! 😉
We’ve been camping at this same campground since I was little – and it was just as adorable and relaxing as I remembered – the campsites have space, privacy and nature abounds!
Back in 1912, The Carpinteria Chamber of Commerce decided to attract tourists by adopting a slogan that would help attract visitors – so it became “The World’s Safest Beach.” And it’s still their slogan today!
**While that was partly fabricated, it has been rated the #1 swimming beach in California, due mostly to its Southern exposure and its protection by the Channel Islands so there are no riptides….
And speaking of south facing, if you wade off shore and start swimming straight – the first land you will touch is ANTARCTICA! Isn’t that amazing?
In addition to a beautiful beach, the nearby train tracks make your stay more fun and unique too….
And yes, I am one of those people who still says “Ooooo!” and runs to watch the train and wave at the conductor. #NeverGrow Up #SorryNotSorry
We spent our days lounging around on the beach, reading, walking, wading and boogie boarding!
And spotted some ocean butterflies! 😛
There are Tar Pits on this beach too – isn’t that interesting? Asphalt is seeping up and oozing out on the beach. Very cool!
Here’s an up-close look at the asphalt…kinda mesmerizing don’t you think?
The Chumash Indians used this tar to waterproof baskets and canoes!
We also enjoyed some of the beach architecture…. 😛
I have to encourage you to visit! It’s super easy to plan a weekend getaway – and you DON’T HAVE TO CAMP! It’s super easy to plan a weekend getaway: just jump on the Amtrak train in San Diego and jump off right in the heart of Carpinteria –
everything is within walking distance so you won’t even need a car!
Speaking of the heart of the town, there are so many cute historic homes – it was a pleasure to stroll around.
And everyone has their home painted a fun color!
(If I could paint my house any color I’d lean to aqua or purple….how about you?)
We spotted the “Carp Caterpillar” with an incredible collection of painted rocks – this community art project started at the beginning of the covid lockdown and people are still adding to it – it’s over a block long!
Oh. And we ate.
A LOT of yummy things.
Here are two things I remembered to take photos of —
a snowcone for me and a root beer float for hubby and we shared a fish and chips for dinner one evening — so good!
We happened to be there during a super low tide – so we had fun exploring the tidepools that were normally underwater..
Can you spot the harbor seals in the background? They were playing in the surf just a few minutes before….
The volunteer Ranger helped us find lots of cool and amazing things in the tidepools!
The beach was beautiful everywhere we looked! (And all of this was just a few steps from our campsite!)
Well, you can’t go camping without some campfires….
and you can’t have a campfire without marshmallows….
and you can’t have marshmallows without making them into ooey-gooey s’mores!
….it was SWEET!
What can I say: I’m Feeling Blessed!
And do you know what else I’m blessed by? Capturing amazing moments for you to treasure for a lifetime!
