Frivolous Friday! My Downtown Get Away!
It’s Frivolous Friday!
Thought I would share some of the fun I squeezed in this week (in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work.)
Yep, this happened #1:
My little purple suitcase and I went on VACATION this week! {cue the roar of the crowd!}
It was just one night in downtown San Diego – but I’m calling it a vacation anyway — woot!
It’s been a bit of a tradition for the hubs and I to stay downtown over the 4th of July – and after missing it last year, we were excited to be back!
As soon as we checked in at our hotel, we ditched the car and went for a walk.
I was pleased to see the Gaslamp District has been transformed into an outdoor dining paradise!
*The hubs and I have always thought 5th Avenue should be made pedestrian only – maybe our wish might come true? What do you think of that?
We picked out a boat we want to get someday when we grow up, had fun people-watching and enjoying all the street vendors’ displays….
We couldn’t resist a stop at the Something Sweet Candy Shop in Seaport Village – my hubby went for the sour candy and I couldn’t resist some Salt Water Taffy!
What’s your candy of choice?
We also enjoyed a Hawaiian Shave Ice and I can never pass up fresh kettle corn!
We had reservations at Flemings for dinner and while Hubby went for a dry aged steak, a salad and lobster hit the spot for me!
Then it was time to stake out our spot to watch the Big Bay Boom so we headed for the coast….
Here’s the view from the top of stairs of the Convention Center – we always watch the show in the same place – near the symphony and in front of the Fireworks Barge.
This year we grabbed a viewing spot on the rocks – and while the ‘seat’ was a little HARD…. the views were amazing!
Yep, this happened #2:
The next morning we grabbed our free breakfast at the hotel and then headed out for a walk at Balboa Park –
I can’t tell you the last time I was at the park WITHOUT my professional camera (perhaps I was there for an Old Globe show in 2019? Maybe… anywhoo – it’s been a long time)
And I also can’t remember the last time the Plaza de Panama Fountain looked so beautiful. So of course I asked the hubs to capture me in such a beautiful setting…!
(And funny story as he was capturing that a little line of other park visitors started to form so they could take the same photo….lol….so I started a ‘Photo Stop’ 😛
I love the vibrancy of Balboa Park – both figuratively and in literally– so much color everywhere!
If you haven’t been to Balboa Park for a stroll lately, I recommend you put it on your summer to do list – from the lily pond to Spanish Village and the fountains to the gardens – it’s stunning right now!
