Frivolous Friday! A Book Club Lunch & Summer Reading

It’s Frivolous Friday!

Thought I would share some of the fun I squeezed in this week (in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work.)

Yep, this happened #1:

I’m so happy to be diving into SUM, SUM, SUMMER time!

First up on my to do list is settle my reading list for the summer!  (Here’s my start plus I have a few more on my kindle.)

Now I just need to find time to actually READ.

As a small business owner, there’s just ALWAYS something to do so I end up working 12 hour days every day….anyone have any advice on how to make time for reading?

And did I miss any great books?  What’s on your summer reading list?

I’m also listening to audio books by Ellery Adams…she has so many amazing mystery book series and I’m devouring them!

And so far I’m loving “Summer of a Thousand Pies” by a local author (who set the story in a pie shop in Julian.)

But Oprah’s book “The Path Made Clear:  Discovering your Life’s Direction and Purpose” is really resonating

[and yes I always have three books going at the same time, Bible, Nonfiction and Fiction…keeping myself diverse lol]

In her book, Oprah talks about paying attention to what feeds your energy and moving in the direction of that because it was what your life was intended to be.

She illustrates that by noting that she left her ‘job’ and then found her ‘calling.’

That is so true for me and I know that sharing my gift of photography is my calling and that I am one hugely blessed lady!

God had a big, wide dream for me!

Yep, this happened #2:

Speaking of books, this month was my first time hosting my book club since 2019 – and oh MY it was good to be together!

We have been meeting for EIGHTEEN YEARS!  And each month we take turns choosing a book and planning a luncheon to fit the book.

My book choice was “Meet Me in Monaco”

It’s is a fun story about the romance and wedding of famous Hollywood actress Grace Kelly to Prince Rainier.

Even though we’ve been to Monaco and visited her palace, I knew next to nothing about Grace Kelly, other than she married a prince, so everything about this book enthralled me from the start.

It’s a delightfully sweet romance layered with historical fiction, life lessons, and difficult choices.  The perfect summer read if you ask me!

So I set about making my lunch seem like we were in an outdoor cafe in the French countryside….

I served Creamy French Spring Vegetable Soup,

French Spring Salad (with asparagus, beets, goat cheese and nuts with a lemon dijon dressing…YUM)

Also French Deviled Eggs Mimosa which are stuffed with tuna and egg salad,

Lemon Lavender Iced Tea and crusty bread….

And for dessert, of course it had to be Wedding Cake (with a cake topper of course…lol) in honor of the weddings mentioned in the book –

I dug out one of my super, SUPER old recipes for Hawaiian Wedding Cake and it was DELISH!

(So good in fact that my hubby, who usually hates cake, LOVED IT!)

And I thanked my friends for coming with a fun little French-countryside favor….

Oh ya….it’s good to be back!

What can I say:  I’m Feeling Blessed!
