Frivolous Friday: A Citrus-y Sunrise and What Will I Do With All This Fruit?

It’s Frivolous Friday!

Thought I would share some of the fun I squeezed in this week (in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work.)

Yep, this happened #1:

Was able to capture an amazing sunrise this week!

….and I’m not sure if I was on citrus overload but does this sunrise make you think of sunny oranges, lemons and grapefruits….?  😛

Keep reading to see why my mind was filled with citrus….

One of the amazing things about winter is that it’s citrus season in Southern California!

And I’m lucky enough to have tons of beautiful fruit from my parent’s backyard and I’ve been NOSHING it like MAD!

And when there’s too much fruit to eat – then next up is juicing it!

We juiced about a gallon of orange juice….

and I always freeze some of the orange juice to make Orange Julius Smoothies!

Just freeze your juice in ice cube trays….

And when you are ready – here’s Alton Brown’s Orange Julius Recipe:

8.5 oz. Frozen cubes of orange juice
1/2 cup whole milk
Zest of 1/2 an orange
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 Tablespoon of powdered sugar

It’s sooo yummy! ( and is a great way to preserve your juice so it doesn’t spoil!)

We’ve been overloaded with grapefruit and mandarin oranges too….

So I used the mandarin oranges to make jars of Orange Marmalade.

I chose a super easy refrigerator, Instapot jam recipe and it literally took just a few minutes from beginning to end!

(Let me know if you want the recipe!)

And I bet you are wondering what I did with the grapefruit?   (Come on, humor me and pretend you cared….)  😉

Well we ate a lot of the grapefruit but I also found a delicious Martha Stewart recipe for Pink Grapefruit cookies HERE

(I modified the style a little but let me tell you that frosting is DELISH.)

Next up on my citrus kick is I want to try some kumquats – anyone have a kumquat bush and want to share some fruit with me?
