Frivolous Friday: Welcoming Autumn in the Orchard!

It’s Frivolous Friday!

Thought I would share some of the fun I squeezed in this week (in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work.)

Yep, this happened #1:

Said good-bye to summer this week and kicked off Autumn in Julian with apple picking!

We try to pick apples every year,  but it takes careful planning because the orchards sell out fast.

This year we scored with Volcan Valley Orchard – the apples were plentiful and DELICIOUS! (But it was busy – so if you want to go pick apples GO NOW! – like literally go get your car keys and get moving!)

Yep, this happened #2:

And after an arduous morning in the orchard (ha!) we headed into town for lunch.

And every. single. time. I go to Julian I eat the exact same thing – a “Christie’s Apple Salad” at the Julian Cafe and Bakery.

It’s one of those salads that has so many goodies in it that they spill over the edge of the plate….

You know the kind I mean?

The kind of salad that probably has more calories than a hamburger and fries?

Yep. That kind of salad!

***This one features candied walnuts, crisp, cool  apples, blue cheese sprinkles, warm grilled chicken and lemon poppyseed dressing.

Well, I guess there’s some lettuce in there too — but even with lettuce added it’s seriously pure heaven on a plate!

I’m not ready to eat in a restaurant yet – inside or outside so we ordered our salad to go – so we could enjoy it with a mountain view.

And I brought home an apple dumpling for hubby because I’m all about doing nice things for people – especially when they’ll probably give me a bite…  😉

It was a great day and lots of fun!  If you haven’t been up to Julian lately, head on up!

Yep, this happened #3:

Well, I came home with A WHOLE LOT OF APPLES!

Yay and a little bit EEK!     I know I’ll be making more apple sauce and dehydrated apple rings (LIKE I made LAST TIME)

Do  you have some favorite ways to eat apples you can recommend?

The very first thing I made was Apple Muffins for breakfast the next morning – it starts with some sliced, chopped and peeled apples so I pulled out my nifty apple peeling machine….this is so much fun!!!

I also made Apple Cider Chicken (delish!) and some bakes Apples (but I didn’t bake them I microwaved them – we were enjoying them with a big scoop of ice cream in just 6 minutes!)

What apple-y thing should I make next????   Give me some ideas please….!
