Frivolous Friday: A Groovy 1960’s Camping Trip!

It’s Frivolous Friday!

Thought I would share some of the fun I squeezed in this week (in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work.)

Yep, this happened #1:

Newsflash:  The hubs and I actually LEFT the house for some socially distanced, GROOVY fun this week if you can believe that?   [gasp!]

We went on a short camping trip on San Clemente  Beach – and we stayed in… get this:  a Vintage 1960’s Shasta Trailer!

The trailers are already parked and ready to move in so it’s super easy:

You just bring your food, bathing suit and jammies and you are all set!

And the trailers are even cuter at night….don’t you think?

Here’s our  little home-away-from home under the Milky Way!

The inside of the trailers was as cute as the outside and they have everything you could possibly need from silverware and pans to sheets and shampoo!

There are four trailers in total – all circled up to create a camp community and encourage guest interaction.

And GAMES — just about every game you could think of….

One of the things I loved about the all yard games is that they were out ready to go – so it was easy to walk up and play!

We especially had fun with Ladder Golf – if you haven’t played that before, I recommend it – just don’t play against my brother and sister in law unless you are there for FUN only…

(If you are there to win, it’s probably not going to happen….ha!)

And yes as you’ve already seen,  my super fun Brother and Sister in law were there too!     They were in the red trailer and we were in the yellow – we all had so much fun it’s not even funny.

But actually it was funny – we laughed pretty much the entire weekend!

And here’s the backstory of this pic — it was discovered a couple years ago that my brother in law and my hubby just might remotely 😉 resemble Mr. Potato Head and Woody.

This was a fun realization accompanied by lots of teasing and laughter…and that evolved into buying the toys as mascots….and of course ‘things’ took off from there. And then my sister in law and I had to get in on the fun too – so Mrs. Potato Head and Jessie were welcomed into the group.

These dolls have popped up in ALL SORTS of places in the past year…..so they were for sure invited to come on our camping adventure!

And in case you are wondering if I seem to fit the Jessie vibe -please check out this Video from Toy Story … to compare my fast talking and zipping around with wild abandon with hers and then let me know what you think…..because I think I’m Jessie and the hubs is Woody for SURE.

yep.  I’m Jessie and the hubs is Woody for SURE.

(And side note – we DID wear masks and social distance the whole time….except for a quick photo…cuz you know me in capturing memories….!)

We also had fun on the beach….it was just a short walk down the cliffs and under the train tunnel and you were there.

Our trailers came with all the beach toys, beach towels and boogie boards you need for lots of fun in the sun!

The sun felt wonderful but the water was a little chilly at 62 degrees – but we braved it and had so much fun!!!

Oh.  And we ate.

A LOT of yummy things!

Like veggie kabobs and “Cardiff Crack”  if you haven’t heard of that, you NEED it in your life.

It’s a Tri Tip that has been trimmed, marinated, and infused with a one-of-a-kind Burgundy Pepper marinade, which, through a secret process, permeates the beef.  And it’s only available at Seaside Market in Cardiff

And it literally IS called “Cardiff Crack.”

I forgot to take pictures of everything else we ate on our vacay (my bad!) – so you will have to imagine it!

From Brats to Sub Sandwiches,   Tikki Masala to Carne Asada Tacos,  Huevos Rancheros to Blue Berry Pancakes

and plenty of snacks in between…because camping is hard work and we needed to keep up our energy….

And at night we had a big roaring fire (each campsite has it’s own BBQ Grill and Fire Pit – and there’s also a giant fire pit for all 4 trailers to share!)

And not kidding you, it is CAMPING LAW that when you have a campfire you MUST roast marshmallows and if you roast marshmallows you MUST make S’mores.

(Doesn’t matter if you just ate a full dinner or not – it’s REQUIRED and you will always find room for a little puff of a marshmallow…trust me on this!)

So if you are looking for a fun and easy camping get away –

I definitely recommend The Holiday trailers at San Clemente Beach!  And bring your friends  😉

(Side note, you can pitch extra tents on your campsite – so it would be really easy to invite a few friends!)
