Frivolous Friday: Sunflowers: Talkin’ Smack, Cookies and Getting Snubbed

It’s Frivolous Friday!

Thought I would share some of the fun I squeezed in this week (in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work.)

Yep, this happened #1:

Waaay back in May (and yes that seems like a century ago, don’t you think?) I had an idea

My idea was to buy a bunch of giant sunflower seeds and send them to my friends and family with a little note that said,

“Ready, Set, GROW!”

And that’s how the challenge began!

(Here’s the finished product – keep reading to discover why I made my husband CLIMB the back fence to take this photo!)  :-O

A big part of the growing process was considerable “Talkin’ Smack”  😛

This included lots of fun family texts,  snarky phone calls and braggy photos claiming growing rights for each week…

SO.  MUCH. FUN!

Here’s some of my CO-GROWERS (who sent me photos) we are fun bunch!

And speaking of fun, here’s a fun fact for you:   while they are growing,  sunflower plants turn their head to follow the sun across the sky.

BUT:  When it’s time to bloom they don’t have enough energy to move that now-heavy blossom so it stays in one place.

And get this:  a sunflower plant always blooms to the East.   ALWAYS.

Well the bad part about that is  that this caused my sunflowers to SNUB me and bloom with their back to me.

WHAT?

How rude is that?

After all my weeks of care and attention they snubbed me when it was time to admire my blossoms!

*Now do you see why I had to make the hubs climb the back fence to take that first photo….sheesh!

(The same happened to my mom so she had to manhandle her flower to face the camera…lol)

My friends the bees were enjoying them and didn’t mind one bit that they were facing east!

Slurp!

I’m calling this one “Bee Bum”

A Unicorn Bee!  [gasp! who knew?]

Yep.  This happened #2

Well, I had the idea to make some sort of recipe with sunflower seeds

(You must know that sometimes I do things just for this Frivolous Friday post….and if you didn’t already know that, now you know that I do work hard for you!)

I found a recipe for an Oatmeal Sunflower Seed cookie (let me know if you want the recipe!)

It was easy to make….

And delicious.  And I pretended they were really healthy for me, like I was a bird just eating seeds….and not the butter, sugar and flour that went with it….lol.

Yep.  This happened #3

Well all this talk about sunflowers made me remember last year’s Sunflower Patch Portrait Sessions –

AND NEWSFLASH:   I’m now booking for Family and Senior Portraits this OCTOBER  too (provided the pumpkin patch is open!)

For only four weeks a year us San Diegans get a field of flowers for portraits – so let me know if you want me to reserve a spot for you!

And I absolutely can’t resist sharing an amazing testimonial from mom Jennifer about her Sunflower Field portraits
