Frivolous Friday: Dinner & the Theatre! [gasp!]
It’s Frivolous Friday!
Thought I would share some of the fun I squeezed in this week (in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work.)
Yep, this happened #1:
Hubs and I had an amazing evening filled with Dinner and the Theatre last week!
And in case you are wondering how that could possibly happen – I’ll let you know right up front that it was Covid safe because we did both at home.
On the very day Hamilton was released on film, we were ready to watch!
And in keeping with our tradition of always going out for dinner before we see a show, I decided to also create a magical restaurant in our own dining room.
(I’m all about keeping traditions- for sure – I even dug out my copy of my original Hamilton Playbill! I mean sheesh let’s keep it authentic whenever possible, right?)
First, can I just say, I LOVED Hamilton when we saw it two years ago and immediately wanted to see it again, so I’ve really been looking forward to it’s release on Disney +.
(And yes, subscribed to Disney + just for Hamilton #HadTo!)
I read that the cast and crew from the original Broadway production were hosting a watch party at on the film’s opening day – so I thought it might be fun to join them.
So even though I’m not usually on Twitter, I ‘tuned in’ with them to read all their behind the scenes chit chat during the performance. IT WAS AMAZING!
Here’s a few of the fun things I got to see on the Watch Party:
The original Stage Manager announce a 15 minute Curtain Call warning before the watch party stated (how clever is that?)
Also saw some actual script-notes from Aaron Burr and read Lin Manuel Miranda’s quote about never being able to top it!

Yep. This happened #2
Well the show was as good as I remembered – of course there’s nothing like live theatre, but for now I am feeling a teeny bit better.
It was nice to see some up close facial expressions so it was a good temporary fix to my theatre cravings!
And dinner before the show was magical too – I busted out the good plates, baked some homemade bread, lit some candles and darkened the dining room to create an old school Italian restaurant.
I even asked our smart speaker Alexa entertain us with her “Italian Dinner Party Playlist” – this caused my hubby to roll his eyes, which means it was a success! 😛
My goal, as always is to do the unexpected and keep the ole hubs guessing….ha!
Our fake restaurant dinner was wonderful – the only thing we missed was having someone else clean up…lol
And during intermission I served a fancy and decadent flourless chocolate cake with fresh strawberries – super yummy!
HERE is the recipe if you want to give it a try…it’s definitely a keeper! (And if you know someone who is gluten free this will fit their diet!)
You know I’m BIG on the Arts and Theatre, so I’ve really been missing that – but this fun evening was just enough to help me get through a few more weeks of Covid lockdowns….
Any suggestions of what show we should watch for my next “Dinner and Theatre at home ” date night? I noticed Disney + had quite a few available….
I’m toying with “Once Upon a Mattress” because I’ve never seen that or maybe a rewatch of “Newsies”
Yep. This happened #3:
While I’m giving a shout out to Disney + I’m also going to dedicate my dinner date to Amazon because I am loving the convenience and pricing of Amazon Fresh!
We tried it back in March but could never get an available delivery – but now it’s EASY. Honestly the prices are what I would pay in the store and the only extra cost is a $5.00 tip for the driver.
Seriously? There’s absolutely no downside to it! So if you need Bittersweet Chocolate, Eggs and fresh strawberries to make that decadent dessert they can be on your doorstep in a few hours.
Where has this been my whole life – I absolutely hate grocery shopping – so I’m glad to have a new option!
Check it out and let me know what you think!
