Frivolous Friday! Mercury in Transit, FOG & Breakfast at a new Cafe

It’s Frivolous Friday!

Thought I would share some of the fun I squeezed in this week (in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work.)

Yep, this happened:

I got to check out the heavens- up close and personal!

On Monday, the tiny planet Mercury scooted across the sun’s face for the last time until 2032….!

Skywatchers from around the world had the chance to witness the rare celestial event and one of them was ME.

Here’s a diagram of pretty much what it looked like….and yes Mercury was the size of a pinpoint.

The backstory is that I’d read an article about it and found out the San DIego Astronomy Club was inviting the public to

come check it out for free….so how could I resist?

We arrived at the Sycamore Canyon Overlook at 7:30am, per their suggestion and unfortunately it was super foggy (and FREEZING!)

Clearly (pun intended) we had to wait for the fog to lift and the sun to peek it’s head out….so we went hiking.

Look how amazing the fog was from the top of the mountain…

(This is looking south across Poway Road in Sabre Springs)

I just love all the layers of beautiful fog!

And the morning dew put little sparkly diamonds everywhere…even the weeds were gorgeous!

Well, fast forward 90 minutes later, the sky was clear and the sun was shining.

We had a chance to look through several telescopes and also solar binoculars!

It was so amazing to see teeny weeny little Mercury crossing our enormous sun.

Here’s a photo from Nasa — so you can appreciate the size difference.

After all that adventure we needed a snack!   We’d been meaning to try the new Nutmeg Cafe in Scripps Ranch so we zipped right on over.

I’m happy to announce that it’s just as delicious as their first location – and sooooo cute!

They have every yummy bakery item you can think of,  plus fresh salads and sandwiches.

My friend and I shared the “Nutmeg Scramble” which was eggs, spinach, goat cheese, sun dried tomatoes, sausage and potatoes with toast and jam….it…was…PERFECTION.

**And side note, can I just say that I really appreciated their customer service because not only did they bring our food to the table,  when they found out we were going to share it, they offered to split the plate for us before they served it- so this is just half an order.

Seriously, how cute and instagrammable is this cafe???

They have two locations and both are equally YUMMY.  Here’s their website if you want to check it out.
