Lake Hodges: Animals, Birds and the Creature from the Black Lagoon….

We have an amazing treasure just a few miles away from us:  Lake Hodges in the San Dieguito River Park

From birds to coyotes and insects to flowers – this park has it all.

But for the past few months I’ve been obsessed with the Grebes.

Their mating dance involves WALKING ON WATER….

They build FLOATING NESTS

Can you see all of these little piles floating in the water?  There are TONS of them at Lake Hodges!

And when their eggs hatch, the parents carry the wee ones ON THEIR BACK!

And Grebes aren’t the only wildlife I’ve seen at Lake Hodges in the past few weeks….

And a creature from the Green Lagoon!

(My pal’s dog stepped in the water and was instantly covered in green algae!)
