Frivolous Friday! Butterflies UP CLOSE & lunch!

It’s Frivolous Friday!

Thought I would share some of the fun I squeezed in this week (in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work.)

Yep, this happened #1:

Fluttered by some butterflies this week!

The annual butterfly event at Safari Park is one of my spring MUST Do’s and I always try to go early in the season and early in the day for the best experience.

So go now and check out these “flowers with wings…”

So many gorgeous colors!

And in case you are admiring the detail in these, I’ll let you know that this year I decided to mix things up a bit and only bring my macro lens.

A macro lens is designed for extremely close focusing distances and can take sharp, highly detailed images of microscopic subjects.

Like butterfly eyes and legs that just might need  shave….ha!  😉

A professional macro lens is also great for zooming in on their Proboscis which is their tubular feeding organ…they don’t have teeth!

They only have a proboscis for SLURPING up sweetness!

Although, is it just me or does this butterfly look EVIL?  EEK!

Butterflies use their antennae to detect which plants are producing nectar and males also use it to sense pheromones from females.

And I love this guy with all the pollen stuck to his proboscis and legs:

And what do you know, the butterflies loved me right back!

This photo has a kinda funny backstory – this is a simple brown butterfly sitting on my sleeve – but the red color of my jacket reflected on his wings!

And since this portrait also features his eyes – here’s a fun fact for you:

Did you know butterflies have two different types of eyes: single and compound?

The one pair of simple eyes are primarily for determining light brightness and are unable to focus on an individual object.

The compound eyes are multifaceted and are used for their main eyesight.

And here’s another fact –the inside this bland brown butterfly is gorgeous BLUE?

Yep.  A macro lens was fun to have with the butterflies!  Hmmm….which lens should I bring next year?

Yep, this also happened:

We were starved after all that butterfly photography….so we stopped at The Wooden Spoon for a farm to table lunch!

I ordered a fried chicken sandwich that was delish and had the strength to resist their french fries (with homemade ketchup no less)

and just get the side salad….yay for a teeny bit of willpower!!

(and I do mean teeny lol)

What can I say:  I’m Feeling Blessed!

And do you know what else I’m blessed by?     Capturing amazing moments for you to treasure for a lifetime!
