Frivolous Friday! Fun in the Sun – Desert X Art

It’s Frivolous Friday!

Thought I would share some of the fun I squeezed in this week (in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work.)

Yep, this happened #1:

Tossed the poodles in the car and hit the road to visit my folks in Palm Springs for a couple days.

And let me tell you the desert was FILLED with color!   (And snow on the mountains!!!  Double score!)

(And side note, do you love driving through the windmills?  This wind farm on the San Gorgonio Mountain Pass contains more than 4000 separate windmills and provides enough electricity to power Palm Springs and the entire Coachella Valley.

Yep. This happened #2

We also took time to see the “Desert X” art exhibit.

In case you aren’t familiar with it,  Desert X is an art exhibition where artists from all over the world are invited to create a unique, contemporary, outdoor Art piece for the Palm Springs Area.

This year there are 19 exhibits (website HERE if you want to go) scattered all around the desert from Palm Springs to the Salton Sea, and even in Mexico!

We had a wonderful time exploring “Lover’s Rainbow”

(This colorful rainbow was created with rebar and has a sister rainbow in Mexico!)

And speaking of color, this was my favorite piece of the entire exhibition: “Revolution”

The artist asked viewers to hike into the desert then use Virtual Reality to watch spinning colorful pinwheels swirl around the windmills –

it really was amazing!

Speaking of amazing, one of the Art installations was at Sunnylands….the gardens and reflecting ponds were even more spectacular than the art!

And we also spotted the Friendship Bench from when President Obama and Chairman Xi from China visited the garden.

Oh.  And when I got back to my parent’s house I discovered they created their own backyard art installation.

They drew faces on EVERY. ORANGE. on their tree.  How fun is that?

We need an artsy name for their creation….?  Anyone have a fun idea?

Yep, this happened #3:

We were hungry.

Accidentally forgot I was dieting.

Yum and oops.

That is all.

What can I say:  I’m Feeling Blessed!
