Frivolous Friday! Monster Sighting, Walking on Water and Crying Over Lasagna
It’s Frivolous Friday!
Thought I would share some of the fun I squeezed in this week (in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work.)
Yep, this happened #1:
Met up with the monster from Lake Hodges!
The monster’s name is “Hodgee” and I found him to be adorable and not scary in the least….
Did you know that ever since the reservoir was completed in 1916 people have had “Hodgee” Sightings?
Yep. Our very own Loch Ness Monster who has been named Hodgee.
Way back when, Police even set up buoy cameras and underwater trip-wires to try to capture Hodgee!
And YOU WON’T BELIEVE THIS:
In 1956 thousands of pounds of highly toxic chemicals were used to kill all the fish in the lake (including Hodgee) and then they restocked it.
Anyway – these days Hodgee is celebrated! With art!
This amazing wood sculpture is 16 feet tall and was carved on the spot from one Eucalyptus stump !
I had to capture some of the sculpture’s details for you because Hodgee really is amazing.
Yep, this happened #2:
We were at Lake Hodges specifically to photograph some of the birds….like this American White Pelican….
And this Great Egret (don’t you love how fluffy and wispy his feathers are?)
But we were especially looking for the Western Grebe – here he is swimming….
And here is doing what we were specifically looking for:
A mating dance where he and his sweetie WALK ON WATER!
It’s called Rushing. Essentially their feet churn the water at incredible speeds and their bodies begin to raise up out of the water.
They are almost completely vertical to the water and their feet are slapping the surface so fast (16-20 steps per second) that the slapping and splashing noise is loud enough to be heard a great distance away.
And side note – this was happening in the middle of the lake! Lucky I brought my zoom lens!
By the way, I have a ton more photos from my Bird Watching Extravaganza on my BLOG – click on over to see more.
Have you ever tried to zoom in on a cell phone photo you captured and it was just too pixelated?
The ability to zoom and crop tighter is why I spent thousands of dollars on a professional grade lens!
This is the same lens I use to zoom in on a bride and groom during their wedding ceremony –
So I can capture “close ups” from afar!
Fun fact: During a wedding ceremony, I always stand at the back of the aisle BUT my photos look like I was right next to the couple –
that’s how your guests won’t be disturbed or even know I’m there!
This makes me a PHOTO NINJA!
Yep, this happened #3:
I cried over lasagna this week.
My pal and I popped over to Villa Capri for lunch this week and I ordered lasagna.
DELISH by the way.
So here’s why I had to cry over it:
I forced myself to only eat half so I could keep to my diet goals. (Every little bit helps, right?)
So I cut my lasagna in half right when it arrived, enjoyed every morsel of my half-portion and then asked for the leftovers to be packed up to take home.
Then I walked out feeling smug that I had a delicious lunch for the next day…
I forgot my box on the table! WAAAAAAA!!!!
I realized my error when I got home and just about had a full blown melt down….boo hoo!
All that precious food wasted…..
And as you might guess, lunch the next day EXTRA disappointing….
Has that ever happened to you? Please tell me I’m not alone….
But what can I say: I’m STILL Feeling SO Blessed!
And do you know what else I’m blessed by? Capturing amazing moments for you to treasure for a lifetime!
sessions are an hour long with unlimited poses, unlimited outfits, unlimited fun!
