Frivolous Friday: Cows, Why My Coworkers Have Fur and Gearing Up for Wedding Season!
What three things happened this week in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work???
Well…let me tell you….
Yep, this happened #1:
Had a little bit of downtime this week (keep reading to see why) so my hiking pal and I set off on a LONG hike that we’ve had our eye on….
The hike was long in every sense of the word:
First, we drove over an hour just to reach the trailhead (it is in Santa Ysabel just past Julian.)
Secondly, the hike itself was over 7 miles up Volcan Mountain.
Third, the hike recorded 64 flights of stairs climbed on my health app.
It was also long because we lost the trail on the way back down the mountain…..we weren’t so lost that we were scared,
but we definitely didn’t know exactly where we were or how long it would take to get back to the car….sheesh.
But we laughed the whole way.
(Except when we were squishing through a swamp in mud that slurped over our hiking boots – then we weren’t laughing….kidding not kidding…)
One of the coolest parts of the hike is that we were on cattle grazing land so the trail is covered with cows– how fun is that?
And did I mention it was 40 degrees (we started at 4100 ft elevation) so we noticed the cows were really furry to keep warm!
We made a lot of friends!
And what’s the best thing to do when you finally reach the car after that LONG HIKE?
Stop in Julian for lunch of course!
We couldn’t resist our absolute favorite Julian Cafe for our absolute favorite salad with crisp apples, fresh avocado, candied walnuts, warm grilled chicken, blue cheese and lemon poppyseed dressing.
Oh my, it’s to die for!
Yep, this happened #2:
Speaking of friends, these two cuties (Turbo and Flash) are my coworkers.
We share an office during the day….they help assist me with doorbell notifications, let me know when the mailman arrives
and make sure I don’t sit around too long at my computer doing portrait retouching without a hug or some exercise.
This is how I am officially notified that I need to stop for some coworker love – a little paw taps my arm.
I ask you, how can I resist that face?
And for the record, I’m pretty sure I’ll be a dog owner and lover for life – and little black poodles are my jam. Woof and Slurp!
Yep. This happened #3
In case you are wondering why I had some downtime this week — here’s the scoop:
Each January I block off an entire week from photographing weddings and portrait sessions to send
all my professional equipment to the Canon Factory Service Center to be cleaned, maintained and pampered (think of it as a Spa Vacation for cameras…)
I have a ton of professional grade lenses and flashes as well as FOUR professional cameras! Um…can you say….$$$$$… so of course I take super good care of them!
I have four cameras because I wear two for the entire wedding day: one with my zoom lens and one with my regular lens;
my second photographer carries a complete camera set up; and and the fourth camera is along for the ride so I always have a backup!
I’m happy to report that everything got a clean bill of health and my primary camera got a shiny new mirror system.
So all of us (me and all my gear) have had a nice week of rest and refreshment so we are ready to dive into a new year of photography!
So bring it on world – We’re prepped and READY!
What can I say: I’m Feeling Blessed!
As a photographer it is my great joy to capture Family and Senior Portraits, Engagement, Weddings and MORE that are as special and unique as you are –
