The “Poway” Christmas Tree turns 30! WOW!

I’m sure you’ve driven down Poway Road during the month of December and enjoyed the sparkle of the GIANT lighted Christmas tree at the top of the mountain…….

As a photographer I can’t resist capturing it each year – but this is an extra special year because….

it is 30 years old this year!

Those first two portraits are from past years…’s the 2018 version:

Stunning right?

And now here’s a real treat for you:

Meet – Debbie and Tom the tree’s owners and artists….they have been responsible for that spectacular tree every single year!

They have been giving this tree to the cities of Poway, Sabre Springs and Scripps Ranch for 30 YEARS!

And side note,  I’ve known this sweet and amazing couple for years

(ever since I was asked to photograph their Wedding!   How fun is that?)

This tree has been a festive part of my own family’s Christmas celebration since my son was in kindergarten –

we can see it from our home so a nighttime hike up the mountain is always part of our Christmas festivities.

Well when Debbie and Tom mentioned this was a milestone anniversary for the tree – I asked if I could treat them to a portrait session.

I wanted to capture some up close and personal portraits with them and their tree – and they said YES!

Did you know…
*there are almost 2000 bulbs on their spectacular tree
*the tree has always been lit the morning of Dec 1 and has never been late
*the tree started at 10’ on the roof of the house, now it’s 80’
*there’s a bird perch at the very top
*the color theme changes every year
*the tree is taken down Jan 1 every year

So say a little thank you to Tom and Debbie next time you drive by – and feel free to make a comment for me to pass along to them.

And I have to share my portrait from last year with the Super Moon!

And how’s this for amazing — my portraits were just PUBLISHED by the San Diego Tribune’s Poway Chieftain

I’m so honored and excited!!!   WOOT!
