Frivolous Friday: Baskin Robbins Sweetness and Hummingbirds (both wet and wonderful)

Frivolous:  carefree and not serious, lighthearted, giddy

Guess what three things happened this week in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work???
Well…let me tell you….

Yep, this happened #1:

Enjoyed the sweetness of a Baskin Robbins’ Ladies Night Out!

(If you know me at all, you know this was way more fun than wine and canvas painting…!)

And let me start right off with THIS IS NOT MY CAKE in this photo.

We did have a lesson on cake decorating and got to have tons of fun decorating our own small ice cream cake to take home – but I forgot to take a picture of it!

(And as soon as I got home, hubby had helped himself to a huge slab-o-cake – so the moment for picture taking  was over!)

So here’s what I wished my cake looked like…

We also enjoyed a behind the scenes tour of the shop, learned the correct way to scoop a cone

(bet you didn’t know there are three official ways to scoop BR ice cream…?)

And we each slurped up a chocolate Shake-tini!

(Chocolate milkshake in a martini glass – YUM!)

Yep, this happened #2:

I spotted a hummingbird taking a bath in my backyard fountain -So I ran for my camera and captured the fun – is that the cutest thing, or what?

I love that the top tier of my fountain was just his size!

Yep, this happened #3:

Well, since I had my professional zoom lens out capturing the bubbling bath,

I thought I’d capture some of them flying as well.

**And this is harder than you think because the subject is tiny and moving at 60 miles per hour!

Not sure if you know this or not, but I move a teeny little joy-stick on the back of my camera to pinpoint the focus.

(Yep, I personally tell my camera where specifically I want the focus of EVERY SINGLE PHOTO I CAPTURE!)

So for this hummingbird, I wanted the focus on his eye — not his wing, not the bush behind him, etc.

A hummingbird’s wings beat between 50 and 200 flaps per second — so capturing them frozen in mid air is tricky!

And here’s another amazing fact –  their average heart rate is more than 1,200 beats per minute!

Thought this pose reminded me of a jet fighter – Top Gun anyone?

And speaking of fighting:  Despite their small size, hummingbirds are one of the most aggressive bird species.

They will regularly attack jays, crows and hawks that infringe on their territory.

And I’m sure we’ve seen dominant hummingbirds that guard the feeder chasing intruders away

I say settle down folks, we can all get along….?

What can I say:  I’m Feeling Blessed!
