Frivolous Friday: Nighttime at the Lake, the Milky Way, Santa’s Reindeer and Flying Pancakes!

Frivolous:  carefree and not serious, lighthearted, giddy

Guess what three things happened this week in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work???
Well…let me tell you….

Yep, this happened #1:

Hubby and I zipped up to Lake Hemet (Which funny enough, is NOT in Hemet, but is instead in the mountains near Idyllwild.)

We were there to visit my parents who have their RV parked there for the summer so they can get out of the heat of Palm Springs.

And guess what?

I brought my camera!  {GASP}

Here’s their cute little spot…and it’s definitely not roughing it – GLAMPING for sure!

And since I was in such a dark sky environment, I couldn’t resist making a few photographs of the Milky Way!

This was the milky way making an appearance about 30 minutes after sunset….

And this was about an hour later….

Did you know that the Milky Way has over 200 Billion Stars and is constantly moving?

The best times to observe the Milky Way is from about mid-March through mid-October, so we are almost done with “Milky Way Season”

The milky way will disappear from the skies soon and not appear for months.

Yep, this happened #2:

And can I back up a second and show you want happened just before sunset?

Well I was checking out the lake…which is 30 feet below normal and therefore a block further away than it should have been to camp,

🙁 boo hoo for that.

And scanning the horizon to see what I could see….when suddenly….

(Here’s an ‘I Spy’ for you — do you see what I saw?)

Yep. (center bottom) DEER!  Here’s what she looked like after I grabbed my professional ZOOM lens!

And she had a buck with her….

Could they be Santa’s Reindeer on vacation before the big day?

Possibly – I thought I heard a magic jingle bell!  [GASP!]

Yep, this happened #3:

I ate a flying pancake!

Whenever we spend the night with my folks, my dad cooks us an amazing breakfast of FLYING PANCAKES!

This was invented waaaaaay back when Matt was 2 years old – Pop-pop would make a pancake then toss it to Matt for him to catch on his plate.

It started with a little 2 foot toss onto his little toddler plate but soon moved into 20+ feet tosses across the house.

Matt even made a very special sign to warn of possible danger…

(and yes this sign is 20+ years old and I’m pretty sure is the only ‘art project’ Matt ever did with joy in his heart – and if you have a son you know what I mean!)

I suggest you try flying pancakes yourself – they taste EXTRA sweet and are guaranteed to make kids and adults smile!

**And  just so you know, it’s okay to call the 5 second rule for pancakes on the floor  – just pick em up and let them fly again.  The wind from the toss will clean them right up and Grammy’s floor is always sparking clean, right?

And in case you were wondering,  hubby and I caught them on the first try…Matt would have been proud!

What can I say:  I’m Feeling Blessed!
