Bride Tessa said:
“I absolutely loved everything at BHLDN.
My dress was actually the easiest thing to find. I knew exactly what I wanted before I tried them on.
I am so petite that I wanted something that gave the illusion of making me taller. I also wanted a two piece dress.
Personally, I thought that if I was going to spend money on a beautiful dress I may as well pick something I could wear again in the future or on an anniversary.
I find that the lace top gives me just that. The skirt was form fitting and gave me just the right amount of train.
Overall, we really wanted a sweet and simple wedding and I think my dress displayed that very well.
I wanted to look like myself on my wedding day. I told my bridesmaids the same thing so everyone did their own hair and makeup.
I did mine myself and I think in the end it was the right decision for me.
I will look back on these pictures years from now and that bride will look as me as me can get!
Our color palette was Navy blue, light blue, and blush. I think that was the perfect choice for spring.”
Tessa and Jeff chose to have a First Look before the ceremony – so we would have lots of time for portraits before the ceremony
and the couple could attend cocktail hour…. so we staged a beautiful little first look at each other…
Then we continued portraits in the gardens around Karl Strauss Brewery..
**in this case it was next door in the office complex – but with the right camera angle, a professional photographer and the right lens….it looked like we were in a field of poppies!
(Yes, this is 3 feet from the parking lot and street! But you wouldn’t know that, would you?)
And one of the reasons I always go to a wedding venue the week before is to look for amazing and unique portrait spots.
That’s when I discovered that the nearby office building looked like a huge mirror! So I made a point to stop by with the bride and groom on wedding day!
Tessa wrote that “We really wanted a sweet and simple, easy going wedding.
Jeff and I (Tessa) are both from Southern California so we knew that we wanted to get married locally and what better place than a brewery!
Having been to Karl Strauss before, we knew that they have great beer and great food.
The quality of drinks and food were priority on our must have wedding list, so once we saw the venue actually set up for a wedding, we fell in love!
It is amazing how Karl Strauss can go back and forth from a restaurant to wedding venue.
With the zen vibes from the Japanese gardens to the overall interior design of the building, it was just perfect for us.
The cool thing about Karl Strauss is that they include so much in their package that it allowed us to have more time to focus on the little details (which turned out to be a Godsend).”
Imagine all that before the guests even arrived??
The ceremony details were simple and beautiful – and designed by the couple!
Tessa says ” For the ceremony, our ceremony arch was the main decoration. Jeff (groom), my dad, and myself actually built the arch ourselves.
I wanted our wedding to be unique in that aspect from other Karl Strauss weddings, so I decided instead of using their traditional arches, to make our own triangular one.
Our florist did an amazing job adding the flowers and greenery around it. It ended up being even better than I imagined!”
The ceremony site at Karl Strauss Brewery in Sorrento Valley is so beautiful – it overlooks the most gorgeous garden and koi pond…
The reception room is stunning too!
Bride Tessa loved her wedding decor:
“We wanted to keep things simple when it came to wedding decor.
When I was at BHLDN trying on my wedding dress, we found the most beautiful gold flower table number holders.
I didn’t want to take away from them, so we ended up just using pretty blush tea lights and loose eucalyptus leaves with roses around the holders at each table.
I also found our cake topper at BHLDN and it really made the cake “us”.
Our florist added flowers to the cake and we also had two candle holders that matched the table number holders at the cake table.
Tessa wrote that “One of my favorite parts of the wedding was our nighttime portrait. Our photographer, Pam, did such an amazing job at capturing our wedding day.
She exceeded our expectations! The nighttime shot we did on the bridge in the Japanese garden was so beautiful.
It was just so fun taking those pictures because we were able to look at our wedding from a far and see everyone having fun.
From this bridge spot we could see everything across the water from the dance floor, to the bar, to the tables. ”
Here’s some advice for other couples from Tessa:
“For wedding planning, I would say that finding a vendor that has a lot included in their package can help make things easier for sure.
Since we unexpectedly ended up being long distance for a lot of the planning, it was the best thing for us.
Since our wedding was in the evening, we didn’t have to be ready for pictures until 3pm. Jeff and I woke up early to give our puppy some exercise.
It was such a beautiful sunny morning and getting to spend quality time just the two of us before going and doing the whole wedding was actually really cool.
I am glad we did that. For marriage advice, I would say compromise and keep each other first!
Last piece of advice is to not let family drama get in the way. Weddings can bring out the worst in people but by the time the big day arrives, everyone behaves.”
Years from now, all that will remain of your special day is your photographs, so choosing your photographer is one of your most important wedding day decisions.
My greatest joy is to be asked to capture a couple’s love story from Engagement to Wedding day.
