Frivolous Friday: Exploring the Legoland Hotel, a Pretty Famous Flower field and Revisiting a Fire Area
Frivolous: carefree and not serious, lighthearted, giddy
Guess what three things happened this week in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work???
Well…let me tell you….
Yep, this happened #1:
I saw on TV that Lego Land opened a new hotel and I couldn’t resist checking it out! Even though I don’t have little kids, I’m a huge fan of Legos –
they were an important part of Matt’s life growing up. We also spent many amazing hours enjoying Legoland Park (we had season passes for a few years.) So I really wanted to go check it out.
So I grabbed my partner in crime, Wendy (who is always ‘UP’ for my crazy ideas!) and we hit the road.
I’ll just let you know now, they don’t encourage visitors! Let me explain….first of all, you can’t even get near the hotel without first driving to the amusement park entrance, paying the hefty fee to park and then fighting crowds in the parking lot to get over to the hotel.
(Kinda anti-social if you ask me…but we’d already made the trip over, so we forked out the $20 parking fee…..gasp! Ridiculous for a 30 minute visit, but it is what it is…..)
After I got over the parking sticker shock, we decided to shrug off the disappointment and put on a happy face. And that is easy to do because it really is just amazing!
Here’s the lobby – how awesome is that?
Everything is just so thought out and cute! they have indoor and outdoor play areas for the kiddies…
…and comfy couches for parents to watch while the kids play!
They have tons of activities for kids – from playgrounds, legos to build with and a gorgeous pool!
They even have an outdoor movie area! (How do I look running the camera???)
The tables in the restaurant have game boards built right into them – everything is themed, clever and kid oriented!
We tried to sit in the restaurant and order a light snack, but they don’t really do that either (It just about sent the hostess into shivers when I said we didn’t have a hotel room number, and we just wanted a snack not the $18.95 breakfast buffet….!)
So my recommendation is plan a night or an entire weekend with the kiddos where you can stay at the hotel and visit the park the way they intended it to be…..
Yep, this happened #2:
Since I was in Carlsbad, I stopped to peek at the Carlsbad Flower Fields.
I kinda alternate years between paying to get in and just looking at the flowers from outside.
This year was an ‘outside the fence for free’ kind of year.
**And I don’t want you to think I was cheating or climbing a wall….there are official observation decks on the street above the flower fields, just for this purpose – with free parking right next to them…
So if you just want to peek – go check them out – there are great views to be had for free.
We needed a little exercise so we walked around the entire flower fields on the city sidewalk – we took time to walk through the Armstrong Nursery to see all the fun things they have too….
I’ll probably be back next year to buy a ticket and spend the day with my big camera….but this year, an outside the park visit was perfect!
Yep, this happened #3:
Speaking of visiting, I went back to revisit the area of 4-S Ranch that burned three years ago…..and it looks wonderful – all grown back!
And we noticed a trail we hadn’t been on before – so we decided to take the road less travelled!
It leads around the mountain (with some great views)
and under Carmel Valley Road!
Pretty cool, right?
What can I say: I’m Feeling Blessed!
