Frivolous Friday: Sparks and Fire on the Beach, a Gift for Me & My Butterfly Friends and Daffodils!

Frivolous:  carefree and not serious, lighthearted, giddy

Guess what three things happened this week in between all my portrait sessions and retouching work???
Well…let me tell you….

Yep, This happened #1

Did you know I have a lifelong love of learning?

Well now you do!

So I signed up to attend a Night Time Photography class and one of the techniques we learned was photographing Steel Wool that has been – get this:  set on fire and then spun from a rope like a cowboy swinging a lasso.

Who knew that was a thing?

In real life it looks like a guy spinning a rope with a few sparks popping out every now and then….

But with a long 25 second shutter on my camera – all those spins are recorded on the same image and you get something REALLY cool!

You might be wondering, is it dangerous?  Kinda.  I was wearing a thick hoodie and had a protective filter over my lens….

And we were in a safe place (the beach) because of course the sparks were FLYING!
The effects are different depending how the steel wool is spun….and if the holder is walking, spinning, etc.

So cool, right?

Yep, this happened #2:

Received the sweetest gift this week from my good friend William, age 3.

It was a beautiful handmade card and a Milk Weed Plant!

Are you wondering why a Milk Weed plant is such a great gift?

Well, that particular plant is  LOVED by the monarch butterfly.

[Without milk weed, monarchs can’t successfully reproduce and the species will decline…boo hoo…]

If you didn’t know, monarch butterflies lay their eggs only on milkweed plants – their larvae (caterpillars) then hatch,  feed, and then complete their life cycle by transforming into butterflies!

I’ve been watching William’s own backyard Milkweed excitement and he knew I’d love one for myself.  Pretty thoughtful, huh?

HERE‘s the whole scoop on William’s Milk Weed Plant and his caterpillars, chrysalises and butterflies from a couple weeks ago in case you missed it.

Stay tuned for what happens in my own backyard!!!

Yep, this happened #3:

Speaking of caterpillars and plants, I decided to give you a bug’s perspective of a little patch of spring gorgeousness….

(And yes, I laid down on the ground to capture this photo)

**and yes, I got my clothes dirty, but as Matt’s preschool teacher once said “Do your mommies have a washing machine?  Cuz if they do you can get as dirty as you want…!”

What can I say:  I’m Feeling Blessed!
