Night Sky & Milky Way at Lake Cuyamaca and the idea of Wedding Photography at the lake

The extraordinary adventure of continuous learning helps drive me to always improve and learn.
I don’t think a single week goes by that I haven’t read, watched, attended or researched
something photography related – I’m ALWAYS trying to perfect my craft.
Because I believe:
The ability to make, not just ‘take’ photos is something
that sets me apart as a professional.
So when I heard about an overnight workshop teaching photographing the Milky Way
(something I’ve never tried before) I just had to sign up!
We arrived at Lake Cuyamaca’s Lone Pine camp early on a Friday and had time for a hike
before the lessons began.
As we were hiking it occurred to me – don’t you think one of these two little spots would make for an
amazing rustic and casual lakeside wedding?
Can you imagine getting married right there?
And then maybe all your guests could camp with you?  Or have a big lakeside picnic reception?
There weren’t any weddings there that weekend – but I did see a few families of Canadian Geese…and they told me they had been married there.  What a coincidence, don’t you think?
And how adorable are these fuzzy little babies???
When the sun set our teacher began the lesson.

Then we all grabbed our tripods and headed to the edge of the lake.
These images are 10-30 second shutters – and they were captured between 10:00pm and 2:00am

I don’t think have ever seen so many stars…even stars reflected in the lake!

Did you know the Milky Way is not always present in the night sky?
It rotates from below our horizon and then across the sky —
the best viewing for us San Diegans is from April to August and it actually
has a timed entrance and exit.
