Miami: Art and Alligators

Word on the streets is it’s fun to spend Spring Break on Miami’s South Beach.
So we decided to check it out…..
(Well, not really, we just arrived a few days before our Caribbean cruise and decided to do a little sight seeing…..and wow did we ever see the sights!~)
I won’t bore you with the details of the millions of spring break college students roaming the
town wearing next to nothing and in search of beverages….
But I will tell you about Miami’s art scene – because it’s amazing and worth talking about!
Even their life guard towers are unique and artsy – and Ocean Boulevard is AMAZING!
Miami Beach’s Art Deco District is the first 20th-century neighborhood to be recognized by the National Register of Historic Places, with 800 structures of historical significance, most built between 1923 and 1943. The fanciful pastel buildings, with porthole windows, ship-like railings, sleek curves, glass blocks, shiny chrome, and gleaming terrazzo floors are prime eye candy!

They also have an amazing neighborhood art project called Wynwood Walls

It is home to over 70 galleries, five museums, three collections, seven art complexes, 12 art studios, five art fairs and the Wynwood Walls.

The Walls have brought much notoriety to Miami within the genre of graffiti and street art.
Artists from around the world have contributed to the Wynwood Walls.

Seems like every wall of every building in the entire neighborhood is covered with amazing art!

I highly recommend a visit!
And want to know what I also recommend?

An airboat ride in Everglades National Park!

This was kind of our road – but the driver also made his own roads…

Of course what we all wanted to see were ALLIGATORS!

and we did see lots of them….tiny babies, juveniles and adults….

Some scared and skiddish and others knew we weren’t going to hurt them so
they continued their morning nap….

And of course after that we were starved and had to try a grilled Cuban Sandwich….yum.
