Caio! Welcome to Sorrento – on the Amalfi Coast.
If you missed any of my vacation stops, you can click back:
We spent an hour strolling through the charming town of Positano…
….with adorable shops and an incredible beach and view of the mountains….
And food — delicious shrimp pasta!
Then it was on to the ancient city of Pompeii
Pompeii was built in the 6th century before Christ and was destroyed by an eruption of the volcano, Mt. Vesuvius in 100AD killing its inhabitants and burying it under tons of ash.
Pompeii is 165 acres in size and as of today is only 75% excavated – but it is beyond amazing!
Grooves in the streets from chariots
(…and notice the raised stones?
Those were for pedestrians to cross the muddy street without getting their feet wet.)
The fresco paintings inside the homes are still colorful and beautiful!
And of course….the plaster molds of victims….
