The Physics Regatta 2011
Went to a regatta the other day.
Not your every day regatta….this one was in the high school pool and the boats had been built by students in their Physics class.
Let me back up a bit.
That is the start of Matt’s boat. The kids are given some balsa wood and some paper.
They have to construct a boat that will take a team member across the pool.
Some boats don’t even get off the starting line…
And some make it all the way across…..
And because I’m more an ARTIST than a PHYSICIST, I enjoy seeing how the boats are decorated.
They are really creative!
And here’s what happens if your boat has a SUCCESSFUL crossing. (Beyond getting an “A”)
Each team first has to sail their boat across the pool…..
Then, all the boats that survive compete in THE BATTLE
Yes, a battle to the death!
I just love a teacher who encourages learning, rather than memorizing…don’t you???
