LA Chinatown: Phoenix Bakery

We could have walked for miles it was such a beautiful day. We also had lots more to see on our walking tour of Chinatown, but the hour was getting late and since we had a 2 1/2 hour drive ahead of us, we had to head home.

Our last stop before jumping in the car was the Phoenix Bakery.

This is the oldest and largest bakery in Chinatown with a reputation for its strawberry whipped cream cakes.

Remember I made one of those Stawberry Whipped Cream Cakes?  HERE

AND maybe you remember that this bakery and it’s famous cake was mentioned in the book, Shanghai Girls?

We pressed our little noses against the bakery window and admired all the deliciousness – some we could identify and some we couldn’t.

For the sake of research we decided to taste the Strawberry Whipped Cream cake.

And,you know what?

It wasn’t as good as the one I made – so use my recipe rather than visit the Phoenix Bakery!

Let them eat cake.
