Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is one of our highlights of summer! This year I was lucky enough to be asked to be the photographer (how great is that???)

We’ve been recruiting for months, training teachers and volunteers for weeks and planning, planning, PLANNING.

Finally the week is here!We have 400 children signed up and 150 teachers and staff ready to lead!

VBS opens tomorrow, so the first order of business is to decorate! This year’s theme is “Son Rock Kids Camp” so we set about making the whole church campus look like a campground.

First task was to add some sky and mountains:

Then assemble the forest (We borrowed artificial Christmas trees from the congregation…)

Course we’d need a campfire:

And some grizzly bears:

And maybe a sign post, a bridge and some waterfalls?

Matt is running the tech for VBS — he added the starry sky to the sanctuary and a great soundtrack of crickets and frogs….just amazing!

We have 40 small groups. Each teacher decorated their own little classroom as well:

Then the teachers and staff were treated to a luncheon and devotion – now we’re all set up, geared up, fueled up and ready to go!

“VBS is important to many churches. It provides an opportunity to present the Gospel to many children and to reach families that are not involved in any Bible-teaching church. Now, as always, there is the need for teaching God’s Word. May we be diligent to use wisely the time and opportunities that we have today. Tomorrow may be too late.” Linda Erb
