Seussical, the musical!
“Seussical” is a musical based on the books of Dr. Seuss. The play’s a rather complex amalgamation of many of Seuss’s most famous books.
It centers on Horton the elephant’s endeavors to protect the people of Who-ville, who live on a tiny speck of dust:
The Cat in the Hat, an outside observer, acts as narrator and devil’s advocate throughout the show, creating conflict and keeping the story moving.
Here’s poor little Horton up in a tree sitting on an egg!
What made this production even more special was that this was Matt’s first paying job! Matt was hired to design and run the sound for the production!
As we were exiting the theatre, I looked up to the control booth and caught Matt and his kooky assistant.) Applause please-let’s take a moment to honor techies everywhere!
BUT HOLD ON!!! I’m not done with the story yet!
After the curtain calls and applause, the actor portraying Horton, shooshed everyone and asked the audience to sit back down.
Then in true Dr. Seuss rhyme, he got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend (she was playing one of the other main characters, Gertrude McFuzz)
She said yes!
“I meant what I said, and I said what I meant. An elephant’s faithful, one hundred percent.”
