Hummingbirds

“Like the hummingbird sipping nectar from every flower, I fly joyfully through my days, seeing beauty in everything.” Amethyst Wyldfyre

I mixed up things for you today – I’m starting with a quote!

Go-ahead, read it again, don’t you just love it?

I think that would be a pretty good way to lead your life – flying joyfully through your days, seeing beauty in everything!

(HEY! Now that I think about it, I think that quote could be my blog’s Mission Statement!~)

We have 3 hummingbird feeders in our backyard as well as lots of plants to attract them.

We are lucky to have many varieties of hummingbird here in San Diego and I never tire of watching them!

Even though hummingbirds are small in size, they have large appetites.

If humans had the metabolism of a hummingbird, we would have to consume approximately 155,000 calories a day.

(How many bars of chocolate would that be?)

Beautiful hummingbirds do have a fierce side though.

It starts with this equation:

Hummer + Feeder + Hummer = Fight

Hummingbird air wars are common, with two, often 3 or even 4 irate birds chasing each other about the sky. As they zip around chasing each other, it sounds like a Star Wars lightsaber duel!

In between sips of nectar, they stand guard over “their” feeder:
