What do your graduating high school seniors have to do when their Graduation Ceremony is over?
We think they need something fun AND SAFE to do to celebrate, so our school district has developed a wonderful event called “Grad Night.”
After the traditional graduation ceremony, the kids go home or out to dinner or whatever, then return to the high school gym at 9:00pm for the biggest party they will ever attend!
Can you tell that this year’s Grad Night has sort-of an Indiana Jones theme? That photo above is not a movie set – it’s the totally TRANSFORMED front of the gym! (Can you see part of the gym peeking out from behind this amazing backdrop?)
Parent volunteers have been working for months and months on decorations, scenery, activities, food and games to create this marvelous event. The night’s entertainment will also include shows, mazes, climbing walls, activities, crafts, wacky hairstyling booths, etc
Lucky for us, they hold an open house for parents the night before the event. Even though Matt won’t be graduating for two more years, I had to go take a peak (and I brought you all with me!)
Here’s where you check in:
Students have to stay at the party from 9:00pm until 5:00am when their parents come to pick them up — that way no one has to worry about their teen. Volunteers serve food, chaperone, run the games, provide security and make sure our 500 graduates are having fun!
Okay – let’s go!
After you walk across the hanging bridge through the waterfalls….
You arrive in the first room, where they will play movies all night….
Check this out:
(can you belive how creative this is?)
You can see the dance floor has been transformed to an ancient ruin: (That giant boulder actually rolls down the path just like in the Indiana Jones movies!)
The graduates will enjoy a whole room of casino gaming (parents are the dealers and the whole community has donated tons of big prizes!)
Of course they will also have ping pong, pool, mazes, laser tag, carnival games and shows through the night as well.
Doesn’t this look like fun? (I’d like to give thi$ one a try!)
Congrats to the Class of 2009!
Did I get you thinking about Indiana Jones? Maybe you need to see that boulder scene? Happy to help you out!
PS: After reading a few comments, I just want to mention that our school district doesn’t pay anything toward Grad Night! The kids buy a ticket for about $80 to cover all costs including food. The rest of the money and prizes is donated by the community!
